What is self-storage?
Self-storage is the term applied to secure storage facilities that offer do-it-yourself storage space for members of the public and businesses. In essence it’s your own tailored secure space away from home or the business.
Why do I need self-storage?
There are a number of reasons to use self-storage, whether for domestic or commercial use self-storage facilities offer a flexible solution:

  • If you’re moving to a new house and you need to temporarily store furniture
  • When you’re renovating your home and need to keep household possessions safe
  • If you’re relocating abroad and want to store your valuables during the move
  • Somewhere to put your belongings while you go off travelling
  • If you find that your hobby or sports equipment is taking over the house!
  • When you just don’t have enough space at home anymore

Many commercial companies use self-storage to keep:

  • Archives and files freeing up precious space in the office
  • Seasonal and excess stock
  • Trade supplies and equipment
  • Exhibition and event equipment
  • Office furniture

How do I know I can trust Sloanes Self Storage?
Sloanes Self Storage are a full member of Self Storage Association (SSA UK) who have a membership Standard in place designed to ensure safety and security of self-storage facilities and the responsible conduct of those operating.
Is self-storage only useful for big items?
No, there are rooms and areas available for very large items as well as locker sized units. The average unit size is roughly 80sq ft, but we supply spaces from 10sq ft to 165sq ft and heights are generally 8ft.
How long do I have to rent for?
Self-storage units are most often used to provide medium to long term storage solutions but can be for as little as one month. We have promotions if you want to stay long term, contact us for more information.
Will my storage space be private?
Yes, your storage unit is protected by your own padlock and only you retain the keys. You can provide your own padlock or purchase one in-store.
What can I store?
You can store most items; however, UK Self Storage facilities operate under British law and as such it is illegal to store objects such as firearms, illegal substances (drug, explosives), dangerous weapons or anything else that is illegal or that could be harmful to public health. It is also not advised to store food stuffs and other perishable items. There is a list of prohibited items within our Terms & Conditions page. Police and Customs have the power to enter your unit, subject to serving notice on us.
Will my possessions be safe?
Being a member of the SSA UK the Membership Standard requires our facility to have a CCTV monitoring system, a secure perimeter and to meet all fire and safety regulations. We have cameras inside and outside the premises which record 24hrs a day onto a digital system, the building is also protected by an intruder alarm.
How much does it cost?
Our prices are very reasonable details of which you can find on our website or you can give us a call on 01253 810 567 for further information or special rates for long term rentals. We accept all major credit/debit cards, but do not accept cash for rent. You must pay for a minimum of a month as you move in. If you choose one of our pre-paid introductory deals you will need to pay in accordance with the terms of that specific promotion.
Do I have to book and give notice?
You do not need to book; you can move in as soon as you like. For a deposit of £10.00 you can reserve a unit which will hold your unit for four weeks. We require only 14 days’ notice to terminate your agreement. Larger units may require additional notice, but this will be stated in your contract. Please be advised that the £10.00 deposit is non-refundable. Rental fees will only start when you move into the unit and your £10.00 deposit will be deducted from your first rental charge.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
We do require a deposit which is 2 weeks rent for a domestic storage unit. If you have taken advantage of a discounted period, the deposit will be at the standard rate. Larger deposits are taken for commercial units and bespoke requirements.
Will I need to insure my items?
Yes, the goods in your storage unit remain your responsibility. You will be required to have insurance cover against loss or damage to your goods during the period of storage. We offer a minimum new for old insurance cover which suits most people in the short term or we can provide insurance to cover larger values. It is normally the case that your home contents insurance will not cover your goods in storage. Unfortunately, due to the level of cover provided, we are unable to accept “goods in store” policies from internet only providers.
What do I need to bring in when I book in?
You need to bring proof of address and photo ID with you or we may not be able to book you in. Examples of acceptable documents include photographic driver’s licence, Passport, Council Tax bill, Company ID card (photo) and utility/insurance bill (dated within the last six months). You will also need a padlock but if you don’t have one you can purchase one in-store, along with other packaging materials we stock.
Do I have to move my goods myself?
Yes; however, we have removal companies we can recommend, to help you move in. We have trolleys and a pallet truck which will help if you have a lot to move.
What if I want to access my stored objects at short notice?
We are open normal business hours Monday – Friday 9am – 5.30pm and Saturday 9am – 12.30pm. We are also available on a Sunday by Prior Arrangement.
Can you accept deliveries of items for me?
Yes, by prior arrangement, however, Sloanes Self Storage do not accept responsibility for these goods.
When can I move in?

It depends upon the availability of the space matching your requirements, Once confirmed you can move in anytime by booking your appointment
How do I pay my bill?
You can pay your bill through hard cash or use your debit or credit cards. Our customer support will guide you throughout the payment process.
What is my responsibility if my address changes?
All you need to do is provide us the copies of your previous and present address we will take care of the rest.
How should I pack my things for storage?
We have a specially trained team for packing the goods. You can ask for an appointment or you can follow our packing tips and do it on your own.
What forms of payments do you accept?
We accept all type of payment methods. For the payment related issues please contact our customer care support they will guide you throughout the payment process.
How do I move in my items?
After all the packing has been completed and you’re signed up to our system, you just turn up with your belongings and fill your unit.
Are there any restricted Items?
Yes, objects such as weapons of any kind are restricted in the storage and all the illegal materials are also not accepted. We have a list that can be seen in our Reception.
What if I forget my gate access code?
At the moment we don’t provide gate access codes. You can only visit the facility during opening hours, or out of hours if you’ve made an appointment.
